Review quotes

Some quotes from the reviews of Turn of Fate are listed here.

"ALERION are back with another self-released short-player. Right off the bat it’s clear that the band has tightened up considerably, as the playing is tighter and more technical. The sound is also much more concise and crisp this time around. Vocalist Maaike Siegerist has a pleasant voice that’s mostly sweet but occasionally gets a little more forceful. Thankfully, she has something different to her voice than the countless other clones out there. The songs are well-written and ALERION has the talent to go somewhere."
- Metal-observer.com - September 2nd, 2009.

"Because of vocalist Maaike Siegerist's tendency to drift off into darker realms, the term Gothic will have to be inserted somewhere into the review as well, but that bears no reflection on the bands musical style, which is Progressive all the way. With only 2 songs in which to form an opinion on Alerion, one thing is perfectly clear. This is a band with talented musicians. The near 8 minute duration of the song Turn Of Fate will have the musos creaming their pants I'm sure."
- Live4Metal.com - June 18th, 2009.

"The second song, "Clash With Eternity" sounds very well-arranged and it even has some choir vocals here and there. Beautiful music for the late summer evening! The bottom line is, that the musicians in ALERION play their instruments well and the songs are very well-arranged."

"...they have good potential, vocalist Maaike Siegerist has a very sweet voice and will definately appeal to most music fans, and its also refreshing to see they are not following in the style of Nightwish or Evanessence which alot of female fronted bands have (...) Some very tasteful guitarwork aswell."
- Perfectprog.com - May 19th, 2009.

"Instrumentally, I'm thinking Dream Theater has been a major influence to these guys. The focus is on a distinct progressive soundscape where rhythm guitar provides the speedy pace when needed, whilst the lead guitar takes over the melodic bits together with the classical piano on the background."
- Rock-freaks.net - April 9th, 2009.

"Alerion has grown a lot but from two songs I cannot say if they really have changed their way. The songs sound softer then on Fledgling but way more musically. I think these songs show a very nice other side of Alerion and I am curious about what will be next."
- Digital-Steel.com - May 2nd, 2009.

"...the title track "Turn Of Fate" is a decent song. I really like the vocals on this track and as mentioned earlier the guitars, especially the solos, are fantastic. "
- Puregrainaudio.com - March 16th, 2009.

"Turn of Fate [is] a song that wouldn't sound too much out of place on one of the big named female vocals gothic bands. It has everything going for it. Strong guitars, a very cool bass solo (which I really enjoyed) and haunting vocals melodies throughout. (...) Alerion are a band that I can honestly see going places in the future. I sincerely wish them all the luck in the world at getting signed by a major label and if they are ever in the North East of England playing a gig anytime then I'll be one of the first in the queue to see them. "
- KomodoRock.com - March 16th, 2009.

"... [Maaike's] vocals are the perfect compliment to the extraordinary musicianship that can be found throughout. The song [Turn of Fate] also has a haunting and moody vibe that is very cool as well. Guitarist Bas Willemsen also provides a cool solo near the end of the song. Turn of Fate clocks in at a whopping 11 minutes, but it also provides a solid taste of what we can hopefully expect in the future from Alerion. (...) judging by the music contained on Turn of Fate I think it's only a matter of time before they get signed and it will be well deserved."
- FemmeMetal.net - March 10th, 2009.

"Indeed, the musicianship on offer here is of a high quality, while Alerion typify a hard working band, and for this they receive my full admiration. I would like to hear more from this Dutch outfit in due course, but meanwhile check their site out http://www.alerion.nl . This little gem is only a promo, but 7.5/10 seems fair!"
- RavenheartMusic.com - March 7th, 2009.

Some quotes from the many reviews of our demo Fledgling are listed here.

"All in all, Alerion is a promising band. There’s creativity and a lot of energy behind these people. That’s why they deserve to be heard. To anyone who wants to hear a not-overly-done-and-polished-record from a young, talented band, check this one out."
- Metalrage.com - September 8th, 2008.

"Given some work and better mix, ALERION could really make something of themselves. The band already knows how to compose a catchy song, which is half the battle in their chosen sub-genre. Shoring up the other issues – most notably expanding the good ideas and getting a proper production/mix – could catapult ALERION into a very favorable situation."
- Metal-observer.com - July 30th, 2008.

"It is very clear that Alerion's basic approach is guitar-led, present in each track on the album. This isn't without variety, though, and there are certainly some obvious progressive elements along the way which makes for a very enjoyable and flowing listen. Hopefully with the new vocalist the band can explore and expand their style to fit her voice, and I do hope to hear more from this promising band soon!"
- MetalMarketing.co.uk - April 14th, 2008.

"And after four songs I know, that ALERION is something different and maybe even special in a way. It’s hard to compare them to any other band in the overfloaded metal scene. Which is good and it means that they’re one of a kind. Mix heavy metal with prog metal and add some female vocals to it. Shake this very well and add some chili for the powerful flavour. Voila, the ALERION taste is ready."
- Metalmaidens.com - February 19th, 2008.

"Clearly, Alerion is a promising young band with plenty of potential. With the right vocalist, their strong musicianship now affords them the opportunity to better define their sound."
- Femmemetalwebzine.com - February 8th, 2008.

"En effet les titres sont bien composés et complexes sans tomber dans le coté démonstratif et ennuyeux. Un groupe qui a du potentiel, on attend l'album!"
- Desfillesetdesriffs.fr - October 25th, 2007.

"Overall this disc does a very good job of showcasing the versatility of the band and the diversity of their "sound". They have a great marketing strategy and good tunes. Those attributes, coupled with their youth and enthusiasm give them an opportunity for a real career."
- Hardrockhaven.net - October 12th, 2007.

"They have the chops and just need a little work on the chemistry. Keep your eyes open for Alerion in the near future... "
- Progressiverockbr.com - October 4th, 2007.

'Fledgling proves to be an excellent debut album recorded in only a short amount of time. Alerion is a band that should be checked out and closely watched.'
- Desolatehope.com - October 1st, 2007.

"This band deserves your attention. This cd so happens to be a grower, so live with it and you will reap the rewards!"
- Ravenheart Music - September 20th, 2007.

"This is a must listen and if the band continue to build on this mini album they are sure to go onto good things."
- Rockandmetaldomain.co.uk - September 16th, 2007.

"This is an amazing debut demo and really a band to keep in mind!"
- Digital-Steel.com - September 1st, 2007.
